Puzio steps down from school board

Board of Eduction Member Chris Puzio resigned from his post Monday and the move changes the outlook for the fall election. Puzio came on the board in 2005. he was most recently elected in 2009. His term would have expired in 2012.

Local A&P among those company plans to close

Berlin Mayor Adam Salina and New Britain Mayor Tim Stewart, pictured, competed in the Mayors' Tennis Challenge Aug. 13 at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain. Salina won the match, 6-3. The event was held in conjunction with the 32nd annual Children's Charities Tennis Classic. Don Lukowski, tournament director, said more than $6,200 was raised during the tournament to benefit the Pediatric Child-Life programs at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.

The Berlin Police Department, detective division, arrested Richard Luppino, 49, of 1044 Farmington Ave., on numerous drug charges, Aug. 13, following a lengthy investigation.

An investigation into a marijuana growing operation led to a local woman’s arrest Aug. 4 by the Berlin Police Department Detective Division.

Boys of summer

The Hartford County Jays, an independent youth baseball team made up of local Berlin players, competed in two invitational tournaments recently. The Jays traveled to Barkhamsted for a month-long U12 tournament and also competed in the West Hartford U12 tournament. The Jays consisted of local players Anthony Adamowicz, Mike Bacon, Andrew Bernucca, Kyle DeMorais, Josh Drost, Kyle Dumont, Connor Ladd, Jacob Lapierre, Bryce Martin, Owen Taylor and Austin Withycomb.

Mai, Breed win Trojanowski

The ninth annual Stan Trojanowski Northern Junior golf tournament wrapped up its second and final round Tuesday at Timberlin.

In the boys tournament, Suffield’s Andy Mai (5-under) edged Burlington’s Alex DiClemente in a one-hole playoff.

Berlin’s top finisher was Kevin Jud (8-over, tied for 27th).
