Scores for the 2010 Connecticut Mastery Test and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test were released last week by the state’s Department of Education. In Berlin, school administrators said students continue to perform well — for the most part at or near the top of their economic reference group.

Town seeks to buy 44 acres from Girl Scouts

Mayor Adam Salina announced this week that the town is starting a process to accept assignment of a contract from the Berlin Land Trust to acquire 44 acres off Chamberlain Highway from Girl Scouts of Connecticut, Inc. for open space use.

Police say Berlin homeowner fought off home invasion

Two New Britain teens have been charged with home invasion after an early morning incident at a Berlin home July 12. Berlin police say the Newton Street homeowner fought back and stuck one of the intruders several times.

Beckley Road bridge won't be fixed this summer

Due to an extended permitting process, the Beckley Road Bridge Reconstruction Project will not take place this summer. During the July 6 Town Council meeting, the panel approved using a temporary bridge for another year, but the cost of that option left some officials and residents extremely frustrated.
