Cooling centers opening around the state

Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced today at 4 p.m. that more than 90 cooling centers have been opened in cities and towns across Connecticut as municipalities respond to the governor’s request to ensure adequate relief from a ferocious summer heat wave.

It's 100 degrees

Berlin, like the rest of Connecticut, is feeling the heat. The heat wave began July 4 when temperatures reached 95. It continued July 5 with a high of 96 and then today hit 100. State launches CT Alert Emergency Notification System

The State of Connecticut announced today, June 30, the opening of the registration Web site for CT Alert www.ctalert.gov, the nation’s first statewide emergency notification system enabling Connecticut authorities to communicate critical information to hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents and businesses before, during and after emergencies.

Stanley tops Timberlin

School district fills four top positions

The Board of Education appointed four new administrators for the 2010-2011 school year at a special meeting June 23.

Those new hires are:Dr. Valentina Parchin, director of pupil services;  Matthew Harnett, Berlin High School principal; Dr. Scott Ratchford, McGee Middle School principal; and Christian Strickland, Griswold assistant principal.

End of an era

DeLorenzo headed to UConn

Incoming Berlin High School senior Max DeLorenzo will continue his football career at the University of Connecticut. DeLorenzo, a running back, committed to the Huskies on June 21. He will attend UConn on a full scholarship.

BHS’s all-time rushing leader, DeLorenzo led the Redcoats to their first state championship this past season.
