Arrest made in equipment theft

The Berlin Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the recovery of a substantial amount of stolen construction and power equipment. On Oct. 17, officers responded to a report that some stolen construction equipment had been located at 1348 Berlin Turnpike. Officers met with a complainant who told them that he recognized an excavator located in the rear lot as one that had been reported stolen. Officers secured the scene and obtained a search warrant for the property. The search discovered a substantial amount of construction and power equipment at the location.
Among the items positively identified as stolen were: one Caterpillar excavator, one hydro-seeder with trailer, a wood chipper, two snow blowers and a roto-tiller. The estimated value of this equipment is approximately $55,700. The equipment was seized as evidence.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Jason Nadeau, 36, of 70 Austin Street, New Britain. Nadeau was charged with first-degree larceny by possession and first-degree criminal trover.
Nadeau was arrested on Nov. 17, processed and released on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior court Dec. 1.
