The Berlin High School athletics department has been selected as the No. 1 athletics department in the CIAC Class MM division. BHS is now in the running to be named the top athletics department in the entire state.

The BHS athletics department will be honored at a ceremony to be held Sept. 23 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

"An honor like this is a reflection of our Redcoat academic and athletic community," BHS athletics director Jim Day wrote in an e-mail to his coaching staff and to school administrators.

"I can't express how proud I am of all of you and your consistent positive approach to our program. As I have said many times, I'm a lucky guy to serve as your athletic director. Once again, thank you for your efforts."
