Town Manager Denise McNair says there are some serious issues after rain flooded local rivers late last week.

McNair reported on the situation in her comments to the Town Council Tuesday night.

"Some areas were impacted severely," she said, without specifying a particular part of town. However, earlier reports from emergency services indicated that Burnham Street and Lower Lane, as well as other Mattabessett River flood plain areas, were impacted by last week's heavy rains.

"There are some serious issues,"  for a number of residents, McNair said. Many of the affected homes are the same ones damaged in the flooding that occurred in 2005. "It;s one of the worst I've seen," she said of the flood situation.

Mayor Adam Salina said the ground is saturated and that is contributing to the problem. He said so far this year, rainfall has been 19 inches above normal.
