James J. "Bordy" Bordonaro, Sr., 86, of East Berlin, Ct., died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at home. Bordy was born in Hartford, Ct. and was the son of the late Corrado and Salvatrice (Zenittini) Bordonaro. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker for General Electric, Plainville, Ct. for several years and also at Stanley Works, New Britain, Ct.. Bordy was a member of the Elks Lodge #957, New Britain, Ct., the Italian Independent Political Club, Kensington, Ct., VFW Post #511, New Britain, Ct. and the American Legion, Berlin, Ct. He was honored as the 1978 Sportsman of the Year at the VFW Post #511. Bordy was also an athlete who was active in the Basketball Industrial League as well as an avid bowler, fisherman and Boston Red Sox fan.
Bordy is survived by his son, James J. Bordonaro, Jr. of South Windsor, Ct., his daughter, Mary Ann West and her husband, Terry, his brother, Julius Bordonaro and his wife, Josephine all of Berlin, Ct., his sister, Pasqualina "Pat" Cardella of New Britain, Ct., his sister-in-law, Lucy Lorentzen of Elmwood, West Hartford, Ct.., his two brothers-in-law, Sebby Papa and his wife, Barbara and Frank Papa, all of Newington, Ct., his two grandchildren, Emily and Jason and several nieces and nephews. Bordy was predeceased by his wife, Rose Mary (Papa) Bordonaro, his sister, Mary Perry and his brother, Ralph Bordonaro.
Funeral rites for Bordy will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 8:30 am with the procession departing at 9 am from the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Ct. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Paul's Church, 485 Alling Street, Kensington, Ct. Committal service and final resting place will be in Saint Mary Cemetery, 1309 Stanley Street, New Britain, Ct. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Directions to funeral home: I-84 East or West - Exit 37 (Fienemann Road) Right off exit - one mile down on right.
