The Berlin Police Department announces that during the mid to late January 2009 and into February 2009 there will be multiple large-scale transports of power generation equipment through the Towns of Cromwell, Berlin, Cheshire, Prospect, Wallingford, and the City of Waterbury.

Local and state officials will be assisting in the movement of this equipment. This transport has been authorized and will be monitored by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Due to the size of the power generation equipment, these moves will be conducted between Sunday night and Thursday between the hours of 10:00 pm and 5:00 am. Some of these moves will involve a minimum of two nights of transportation up to four nights. The areas where traffic will be temporarily impacted are:

Cromwell: Rt 372 corridor between New Lane and the Cromwell/Berlin Town Line.

Berlin: Rt 372 corridor between the Berlin/Cromwell Town Line, Middletown Road, Rt 5/15 (Berlin Turnpike) southbound, N. Colony Road to the Meriden Town Line.

Meriden: N. Colony Road, Colony Road, West Main Street, Cook Avenue, to Old Colony Road.

Wallingford: Main Street to Church Street (Rt 68

Cheshire: Yalesville Road (Rt 68/70), South Main Street (Rt 10), Main Street (RT 70), West Main Street (RT 70), and Cheshire Road

Prospect: Cheshire Road (Rt 68), Prospect Road (RT 69)

Waterbury: Prospect Road, Pearl Lake Road, South Main Street, South Leonard, Railroad Hill Street, Washington Ave.

These moves will be escorted by Police Officers from the communities impacted as well as the Connecticut State Police. These moves have the potential of temporarily impacting local traffic and parking during the late night, early morning hours when these transports occur. The Berlin Police Department is asking the public not to park on the streets identified during these periods so that the moves can be expedited and reduce the disruption to the traffic flow in the community.
