Leokadia "Laura" Vernacatola

Leokadia "Laura" Vernacatola, 80, of New Britain, Ct., passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General. Laura was the beloved wife of 64 years to Pasquale "Pat" Vernacatola, who died Friday, October 30, 2009. Laura was born in New Britain, Ct. and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Theofilia (Korzan) Filinski. She worked for several years in the Athletic Dept.at Central CT State University. Laura was a member of Holy Cross Church, New Britain, Ct. and she greatly enjoyed playing cards.
Laura is survived by her granddaughters, Paula Nappi and her husband, Mike, Lisa Gothberg and her husband, Erik, all of Southington, Ct., her son-in-law, Paul Palmese, Jr. and his wife, Mary Rose of Berlin, Ct., her sister-in-law, Anna Boisonneault and her husband, Maurice of Newington, Ct., her great grandchildren, Samantha, Jordyn and Mitchel Nappi, Nick and Rylee Gothberg, Raegan and Jackson Moore. Laura was sadly predeceased by her daughter, Ann Palmese and her granddaughter, Beth Moore, her brother, Walter Filinski and her two sisters, Alice Gladowski and Mary Flynn.
Funeral rites for both Laura and Pat will be held Monday, November 2, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9:00 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Ct. folllowed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Ct. Committal service and final resting place will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burritt Street, New Britain, Ct.
