An investigation into a marijuana growing operation led to a local woman’s arrest Aug. 4 by the Berlin Police Department Detective Division.

Monica Colasanti, 46, of 256 Fairview Drive was charged with: illegal cultivation of marijuana; possession of marijuana (less than 4 ounces); possession of drug paraphernalia; and risk of injury to a minor.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Detective Division regarding a marijuana growing operation at the above address. K-9 Officer Eric Chase and his K-9 partner Zeusz assisted in the operation.
Police siezed 14 marijuana plants from the backyard of the residence which was enclosed with a wooden stockade fence. Colasanti admitted the marijuana growing in the yard was hers and further stated the marijuana was for her personal use.
At the time of this incident, Colasanti’s two juvenile children were present which resulted in the risk of injury charge.
Colasanti was released on a promise to appear with a court date of Aug. 18.
