Large equipment transports will impact traffic

 

The Berlin Police Department announces that during the mid to late January 2009 and into February 2009 there will be multiple large-scale transports of power generation equipment through the Towns of Cromwell, Berlin, Cheshire, Prospect, Wallingford, and the City of Waterbury.

Icy roads close schools

Berlin Public Schools and St. Paul Catholic School are closed today due to the weather. Light freezing rain in the morning was expected to turn to sleet and then rain later in the day. The morning temperatures hovering in the low 30s, meant icy roads and hazardous driving conditions.

Berlin pools need safety fix

The town needs to come into compliance with pool safety standards and the Town Council will consider approving more than $11,000 in order to do so when it meets Jan. 6.

The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act came into existence after the tragic death of a child who was trapped by equipment used in pool drains.

Gentleman Jack Ross remembered

Jack Ross, 86, director of the Water Control Commission for the town, died Dec. 23. Friends and family recalled the life of a "true gentleman" who'd often said he planned to work right up until the end.

Flipped truck closes Route 9

A trailer crashed and flipped over onto its side on Route 9 North near the Route 372 exit. The crash closed Route 9 to northbound traffic for hours on Monday morning and early afternoon. The state police is investigating the crash and no details are available yet about injuries or the driver.

Recently, a registered member of The Berlin Citizen online community created a post on The Berlin Citizen website that provided links to pages on Facebook.

The message of the post was to expose underage residents doing inappropriate things in photos and on video.

Since the post featured the names of underage children, it was deleted.

Flood damage is serious
